Carols at the ChurchThanks to the Castlemaine Church of Christ Community, we found a home for Carols in the Park in the face of heat and forecast thunderstorms. Thanks go always to our Castlemaine Community for turning up and singing with gusto. Compered by local bloke with a great voice, Derek Guille, the event was organised by Rotary Castlemaine and Musical Director Scott Buchanan with the musical assistance of the Thompsons Foundry Band and the Pride Choir. See you NEXT YEAR at (hopefully) VICTORY PARK. PS. Huge thanks for your understanding to the few small groups who arrived at Victory Park to find no carols being sung. Our emergency communications worked a treat, but inevitably there were a few who didn't get the message.

500+ works for Art ShowThere were hectic moments on Sunday as more than 500 works of art were delivered to Castlemaine Town Hall by hopeful and expectant artists. "A record number of entries for this show reflects the work that Castlemaine Rotary volunteers put into the organisation of the show before we even see the first art arrive," noted Art Show Chair, Rotarian Robert Cordy. "It was gratifying to have so many artists comment on the professionalism of the arrangements." Now the baton is passed to Curator Catherine Tait as she designs the show. Curator Catherine Tait and Rotarian Edwina Coller begin the task of displaying more than 500 artworks. "My goal is to present this show as a wonderful exhibition of artwork, that complements artist's work and creates a lovely, enjoyable experience to walk through," said Catherine. The first chance to see the show will be the Gala Opening at 7pm Thursday 5 June at Castlemaine Town Hall. Tickets are available at the door. "At $25 per head, with a complimentary drink and finger food and the opportunity to view, and perhaps purchase, some of this wonderful art, we think that is terrific value," said Robert Cordy. The show is open to the public across the King's Birthday long weekend from 10am–4pm Friday through Sunday and 10am–3pm Monday. Entry is $5 per adult, under 16s free. |

Results are now posted on our Truck Show page. 2024 Truck of the Show was Cornwill Transport's Kenworth SAR driven by Troy and Wayne. Congratulations! And if you're thinking that sounds familiar, it is. It's the same truck that was Truck of the Show in 2023! The judges were unanimous that no other truck at the show was equal to the standard of this truck. Full results available on the Truck Show page. |
Best on Ground 2024At each Truck Show we make an award on Saturday afternoon for Best on Ground. This is an incentive for truckers to arrive early on Saturday.
Tony, from Carisbrook, purchased the rig from a retiring trucker 12 years ago. Restoration began in 2021 and the truck as we saw it today was delivered 4 months ago. The rebuild included new chassis rails, and Tony's vision was for the truck to look essentially as it would have in 1986. These days Tony is mostly driving iron ore trains in WA, but still does some casual truck driving when rostered home. He has been attending the Rotary Castlemaine Truck Show for many years. Congratulations Tony!

Castlemaine Strollers
Rotary joined the campaign to eradicate Polio in 1979. And we've nearly achieved the goal, but world trouble spots provide vectors for the disease to reappear. Recently, new Polio cases have occurred in Afghanistan and Gaza. Our walkers are looking for sponsors to donate to support them. Each dollar donated to Rotary's End Polio Now campaign is matched 2 for 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. So your $10 donation becomes $30! For more information, and to sponsor our walkers, go to https://www.rotarywalkwithus.org/fundraisers/castlemainestrollers/rotary-walk-with-us |

Rotary Castlemaine members are walking in October to raise funds to help eradicate Polio. Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease. There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. The strategy to eradicate polio relies on preventing infection by immunising every child until transmission stops and the world is polio-free.
At our recent Changeover Dinner, outgoing President Kerry Anderson provided an overview on the Club's achievements for the past year before Incoming President Terry Murphy was inducted into the role for our 90th year by District Rotary District 9800 Governor Michael Lapina.
