At each Truck Show we make an award on Saturday afternoon for Best on Ground. This is an incentive for truckers to arrive early on Saturday.

This year, Best on Ground was awarded to Tony Whelan’s 1986 Kenworth W924.

Tony, from Carisbrook, purchased the rig from a retiring trucker 12 years ago. Restoration began in 2021 and the truck as we saw it today was delivered 4 months ago. The rebuild included new chassis rails, and Tony's vision was for the truck to look essentially as it would have in 1986.

These days Tony is mostly driving iron ore trains in WA, but still does some casual truck driving when rostered home. He has been attending the Rotary Castlemaine Truck Show for many years.

Congratulations Tony!
